Step by step
- Export from Google Earth. In Google Earth Pro, right-click the folder that holds your plots and choose Save Place As… → KMZ. In Google My Maps, open the layer menu and choose Export to KML/KMZ.
- Import here. Open the Import tab above and choose the file. KML, KMZ, GPX, GeoJSON and zipped Shapefiles all work.
- Check names and details. In the Plots tab, check each plot name and add the producer and country where missing.
- Fix anything in red. Crossing lines and very large point plots are the most common problems.
- Export EUDR GeoJSON from the Export tab.
Tips for drawing in Google Earth
- Use Add Polygon, not Add Path. Paths are lines, not areas.
- Draw each field as its own polygon, without holes.
- Give each polygon a clear name, such as the farmer and field number.
- Keep each plot inside one property: do not draw one shape around several farms.
Other sources
Files from QGIS, ArcGIS, field apps or GPS units can be imported the same way, as long as they are in latitude/longitude (WGS84). Spreadsheet data can be imported as CSV; see route 2 of the EUDR guide. For general conversion without EUDR checks, use the KML to GeoJSON converter.
